Who First Invented Coffee?
Coffee made its way to us since the 9th-century, discovered by Ethiopian goat-herder named Kaldi. What was told today, Kaldi observed his goats behaving excitedly after eating the red berries from a nearby Coffea arabica tree. He then brought some to a monastery where the religious leaders threw the berries into the fire. The fire destroyed the coffee, at the same time, produced a delightful aroma. The monks decided to give the coffee bean another try, by putting roasted coffee into warm water. Coffee was born and tasted generations after generations since.
Why Is Coffee So Popular?
Let’s be honest with what is driving this insatiable thirst? Addictive caffeine! It is among the many purposes why we need a steaming cup of coffee first thing in the morning, why we would indulge in the creamy dark liquid after every meal. Sipping the coffee, fresh hot from the snooty barista, it is like feeling the love and warmth all around you. Ask anyone who ever skipped coffee for a day; they would tell you it is like a bad day at work. Some even experienced conditions where it feels like your system out of whack, leading to fatigue, headache, irritability, and more annoying issues, says Laura Juliano, Ph.D., a psychology professor at American University.
Do you know some of us even have a cup before a gym session, as it believed to extend endurance exercise and improve performance like BCAAs! Studies show that prolonged heavy activities may induce hypoglycemia, central and peripheral fatigue, muscle damage, and having coffee can prevent or decrease the net rate of protein degradation caused by heavy exercises.
When Popularity Emerged From Pop Culture
Coffee is no longer about drinking it, has fluctuated as a status symbol over time. What has built up this modern appeal? Starbucks and Instagram! Nowadays, social media coverage of celebrities like Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, regularly photographed in the early 2000s walking the streets of New York in oversized boho clothes, venti Starbucks cups in hand. Besides, Hollie McKay at Fox News wrote in 2007, “Handbags and headbands may be chic, but if you want to be a Hollywood hottie, you need to tote a colossal cup of caffeine.”
